Day 1: Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center

We're on vacation!!! We headed into Missouri on Sunday for our 4th Annual Girl's Trip - a yearly trip Alexandra and I take with my mother-in-law. Destination 2008: St. Louis, MO. We always loosely plan our trips and freely stop whenever we see something interesting. Our first stop on Sunday was the Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center.

This was a wonderful nature center with several hands-on activities inside. We also got to watch them feed the fish in several tanks. And, a real highlight was the bird feeders just ouside the windows. We saw chickadees, a tufted titmouse, a downy woodpecker, and lots of other birds. And they were so close!

We knew our first few days would be chilly, but we didn't expect the low 40's and upper 30's. Yikes! We RAN out to look at the glades and RAN back inside. There were hiking trails and one of them went past a wildcat cave. We really wanted to go... but no way in that cold weather! We only had jackets - I didn't think we'd need coats.

  1. To see those birds up close like that must have been amazing. How fun, but "brrr" on the chilly weather.

  2. Welcome to our life, Dana!....LOL!
One day we are in Winter coats, (we had ice a couple of weeks ago) and the next day, we swelter in the long sleeves.
I don't know whether to use A/C or heat!
It's getting a tiny bit better each week, though.
I have my bird feeder really close to my house like that one, too. It makes it easier to observe the birdies. They are amazingly perceptive, though, they can still see me when I get too close to the window. I have to be sneaky!;-D
